Canisbay Primary School pupils celebrated a number of record-breaking athletic achievements before they began their summer break.

Distances and times for all the children have been recorded across a number of events since 2012, as a legacy of that year's London Olympics.

The pupils aim to beat their own times and distances each year, while there are record holders for boys and girls at each primary stage.

This year’s Canisbay record-breakers are: Shot put, P6 boys – Duncan McGee. Shot put, P4 girls – Hollie Mackay.

Long jump, P6 girls – Morven Begg. Long jump, P2 girls – Ruby Nicholson.

Standing high jump, P7 boys – George Ham. Standing high jump, P2 girls – Ruby Nicholson.

Long run, P4 boys – Logan Bremner. Long run, P1 boys – Nazar Tabunchenko. Long run, P1 girls – Casey Burt.

Head teacher Rhona Moodie explained: "We have only one original 2012 record still standing. This is for javelin by our ex-pupil Erin MacGregor when she was in P5.

"The others have now all been broken but we still have some still records standing from 10 years ago in 2013. These are by our ex-pupils Drew Mathieson, Alice Dunnett and Jack Winter for standing high jump, Jack Winter, Joanna Shearer and Alex Kennedy for javelin and Abby Simpson in 50m sprint."
