Reay Rotary Open is a family affair as Colin wins through

The Rotary Open at Reay, sponsored by Abbott Risk Consulting, turned out to be a real family affair with husband and wife Colin and Carol Paterson battling it out at the top of the leaderboard.

In the final analysis Colin pipped his better half to glory after a fine round of 70 gave him a nett score of 65. His halves of 37 and a blistering inward 33 included birdies at the fourth, 11th and 16th holes.

Carol finished a single shot behind in second place after a steady round of 83, made up of halves of 41 and 42, gave her a nett 66.

Tom Ross completed the podium positions to take third place after his round of 74, which included birdies at the fifth and 13th, gave him a nett score of 69.

Carol Paterson also had to settle for the runner-up spot in round four of the Ladies' Eclectic after a round of 86 gave her a nett 71. On this occasion it was Jacqui Grieg who topped the standings after a fine round of 91, made up of halves of 47 and 44, gave her a nett 67.

The Banks Medal is one of the oldest pieces of silverware played for at the club, and Grant Maxwell bagged it in style with an excellent round of 76 for a nett 64. His halves of 37 and 39 included a single birdie at the par-five sixth hole.

Michael Smith finished four strokes adrift in second place after a round of 75 gave him a nett 68. His halves of 34 and 41 included a brace of birdies at the fifth and ninth holes.

David Mackay finished third after posting a solid score of 80 for nett 69.

The June Medal saw John O’Brien put the rest of the field to the sword as he took the category one spoils with an excellent round of 71 for nett 65. His halves of 35 and 36 included a birdie at the 10th hole.

Gavin Sutherland was second after a fine round of 73 gave him a nett 70. Sutherland managed a hat-trick of birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th holes during a homeward half of 35.

David Mackay took third place after his round of 81 gave him a nett 70.

In category two it was Jock Eunson who emerged victorious after a steady round of 90 gave him a nett 72. Kenny Farmer took second place on nett 75.

Round one of the strokeplay championship was also a low-scoring affair, with John Nicolson topping the standings after a round of 74 gave him a nett 65. Cammie Ross finished second after a round of 75 gave him a nett 67, while Colin Paterson posted the lowest gross score of the day with a round of 73 which included birdies at the third, fifth and 16th holes.
