WICK Academy have successfully attained the Scottish Football Association standard quality mark award – an accolade which encourages and acknowledges the development of good practice among clubs.

Academy have been working towards the criteria required to achieve the award for just over two years.

Several different standards have had to be achieved covering the administration of the club, player and coach development, planning and child welfare.

John Briskham, of Wick Academy, has been co-ordinating the project.

“Everyone at Wick Academy Football Club is delighted that we have now met the standard required to obtain the award,” he said. “It’s been a long process consisting of several SFA audits and everyone at the club, including our dedicated coaches and committee members, have worked very hard in taking the club up to the necessary standard.”

Peter Budge, football development officer for the Highlands and Islands, added: “This award is recognition of best practice both on and off the park. It will allow a continuum of motivation and education through the age groups and will also ensure players have the opportunity to develop and reach their potential which, in turn, will secure a bright and prosperous future for Wick Academy FC.”
