Pony Club presentation of awards

A NEW trophy has been presented to the Caithness branch of the Pony Club in memory of a former district commissioner, James Campbell of Thurso.

His wife Phyllis Campbell and daughters Jane Campbell and Karon Jappy went along to the club's annual presentation of awards held at the Ulbster Arms, Halkirk, to see the prize being handed over to the first recipient.

The new trophy went to the working hunter champion horse at the Pony Club Open Show and this year's winner was Morven Mackenzie, of Achalone Croft, Halkirk.

Prizes were awarded to winners throughout the year of all the competitions held by the club, including the open show, combined training and gymkhana, with the trophies for the one-day event gong to the competitors taking part in this year's North Cup at Scotsburn.

Jane Campbell presented the trophies.

Other awards:

Horsemanship cup for the most improved senior: Alice Dunnett. Crackers Shield for the most improved junior: Alysha Homes. Sarah Pottinger Memorial Trophy for merit: Andreas Ramsøy. Colonel Hildreth Cup for best away from home performance and Gilly Ronald Cup for cross-country performance: Emma Coghill. Round Table Cup for the North Cup team: A Ramsøy, M Mackenzie, Erin Hewitson and Leoni Kennedy.

Caithness Pony Club Shield for most deserving child at mini camp: Gina Cowe. Fudge Trophy for endeavour: Eve Nicoll. CPC Shield for attendance: Aimee Holmes. Colonel Hildreth Horse for turnout senior, and Minstrel Memorial for best in 14-15 years age group: M Mackenzie. James Gunn Cup, turnout junior: E Hewitson.
