Caithness youngster Darren Bain competed in round four of the Grampian Kart Club championship at the Boyndie circuit near Banff at the weekend and finished on the podium in third position.

Darren (12), from Charity Farm, Wick, was fifth in heat one (time qualifying), then took third place in heat two. He finished second in heat three and had the fastest lap of the heat, a 43.820-second lap.

In the final he qualified third and finished third. It was a close race with only half a second separating the front three karts.

Thomas Jackson took the win, with Vinnie Lewis in second place.

Darren – a Wick High School pupil as of this week – heads to Crail in Fife this weekend to compete in round three of the Scottish Super Series.

Ten-year-old Ian Campbell from Watten was also racing at the weekend. He finished in fifth position with the fastest lap of the final (43.664 seconds).
