RICHARD Thain was in tiptop form last Saturday as he had to use all his powers to overcome a very strong field to lift the first prize of £100 in the Harpers Open.
Stewart Tait lost out by the odd leg in nine and was a gallant runner-up – a tag Stewart has found too often this season.
Richard also claimed a spot in the line-up to play Russian ladies’ world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova at the forthcoming exhibition on July 29 at Harpers function suite. Dorothy Macgregor got a spot as the furthest lady.
Anastasia will play a total of 20 players. Some have been picked to play by Alexander Harper while others were invited as guests and there will be a chance for some of spectators to play Anastasia.
It all takes place the day after the gala procession, kicking off at 2.30pm.
