PICTURES: Scottish Masters cross country success in Forres for North Highland Harriers

North Highland Harriers made their presence felt at the Scottish Masters Cross Country Championships in Forres at the weekend.

Michael Sutherland collected a bronze medal after coming third in the M55 category, finishing in 36.16.

Others from the Caithness club taking part at Grant Park were Lorna Stanger (W50, 33.38), David Orr (M50, 38.45), James Kelman (M55, 40.23) and David Spence (M55, 40.55).

A club spokesperson said: “Everybody did well and it was great to see so many north district cross-country friends and faces as well as plenty more from all other parts of Scotland!”

Grant Baillie of East Kilbride Athletics Club came out on top at the event, the M45 category runner finishing in a time of 29 minutes and four seconds on Sunday.

He was 11 seconds ahead of Ben Livesley of Moray Road Runners, who crossed the line in a time of 29.15. Jim Tole of Metro Aberdeen was in third place in a time of 29.45.

The top three runners overall were in the M45 category.

In the overall women’s competition, F40 runner Sara Green of Gala Harriers dominated as she claimed victory by 70 seconds as she strolled home in 24:12.

Sandy McDougall was in second place as she crossed the line in a time of 25.22. Sarah Attwood of Highland Hill Runners was in third place with a time of 25.56.

In the M40 category, Central Athletic Club’s Ross Houston claimed the category title and was in fourth place overall with a time of 29.50.

There was success in the M75 category for former Caithness man Alex Sutherland, running for Inverness Harriers, who became Scottish champion winning in 30.48.
