He will be backed by assistants Kevin Wyness (Highland/GHA); Junior Bulumakau (Highland); and Sam Mountain (Gordonians).

Sangster said: “I am delighted to have been given this opportunity.

"In years gone by, this competition was a highlight in the rugby calendar for players throughout the region, and the return of the event is a great opportunity for amateur club players to showcase what they can do.

"It’s a step up from league rugby and something for all players to aspire to."

Sangster was a driving force of the game in the far north, where he spearheaded the development of the junior and senior sections of Caithness RFC.

He moved in 2015 to join Dundee Rugby.

The Reds have been drawn to meet Glasgow & the West in Canal Park, Inverness on Saturday, May 13.

The winners will play the winners of the South and Edinburgh in the final on Sunday, May 21.
