Three Wick swimmers attended the Scottish national age-group championships at Aberdeen Sports Village as part of the Highland Swim Team.

Eva Robertson and Nebi Senguler both qualified for individual swims, while up-and-coming swimmer Jack Angus was invited to participate as part of a relay team.

This is a big event in the swimming calendar. The qualifying times for each age group are of a high standard and to qualify for it is an achievement in itself.

Eva, swimming in the age 16 category, qualified for six individual events and four relays over the course of the week. She reached the finals of the 200m breaststroke and the 100m breaststroke, finishing fifth and ninth respectively, and also picking up personal best times in her 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

Nebi, in the age 15 category, qualified for 16 individual events and selected 10 to swim over the course of the week, also taking part in three relays.

In the end Nebi swam eight events, reaching eight finals, and took the Scottish national age-group title in the 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly as well as second place in the 100m butterfly.

He finished fifth in the 100m back and 400m free and 10th in the 200 back. Unfortunately, due to an injury sustained on the penultimate day, he was unable to finish the final day of swimming.

It was a first experience of the Scottish national age-group championships for 11-year-old Jack, who said: “It was great being part of the team. I am going to try to get individual times so I can compete next year in individual events.”
