Week three of Wick Wheelers’ season saw Thomas Wright taking part in his first time trial. He battled the low temperature to record an encouraging time.

Danny Miller continued his fine early form to win comfortably from Derek Fraser.

Coralie Ross made her season’s debut and was quickest lady on the night.

Times: 1 Danny Miller, 24 min 11 sec; 2 Derek Fraser, 27.24; 3 Coralie Ross, 30.53; 4 Lisa Coghill, 34.52; 5 Thomas Wright, 37.54.

Caithness Cycling Club’s third 10-mile time trial was back to the usual Watten road course but conditions were again extremely tough, with a temperature of only 6C, feeling like 2C in the 20 mph northerly wind.

Just two riders, Lorna Stanger and Phil Cartwright, braved the elements – both for their first race of the year. Lorna clocked 30 min 16 sec and Phil 32 min 45 sec.

Cartwright was also one of seven club members, among 5600 riders from 24 countries, who competed in the 66-mile Etape Loch Ness.
