Forty-one players turned out to contest Thurso Bowling Club's Balloted Open Pairs competition last Saturday. There were a few notable pairs drawn but most bowed out before the semi-final stages.

Youngsters Liam MacKay and Euan Morrison fought their way through some strong teams and had a comfortable win in their semi against Ricky McMahon and Henny Henderson with a score of 17-6.

Mike Windsor and Alan Morrison claimed their spot in the final with a 14-8 victory over Ryan Watt and Robert Bell.

Mike and Alan took control of the final early on and had built up an 12-3 lead by end seven, and although Liam and Euan played some good bowls they had to settle for the runners-up spot as Mike and Alan closed the game out 17-7.

Jillian Tewnion, Marina Bain and Lorna Cormack travel to Invergordon on Saturday to compete in the Northern Counties ladies' triples.

This Saturday sees the gents take over the green when the Allan Cup handicap singles take centre stage and all players are reminded to report to the green by 9am.
