CAITHNESS and north Sutherland army cadets came backs with medals from a UK swimming competition in Glasgow.

Seventeen-year-old Ethan Clarke is a member of the Thurso detachment of the 1st Battalion the Highlanders and was selected as a member of the Scottish team taking part in last week’s Army Cadet Force Association’s national championships in Aldershot.

He was one of four from the battalion in the team, which also included Caithness company colleague Heather Mackay (13), of the Farr detachment.

Ethan came second in the senior boys’ relay while Heather’s junior girls’ team finished first overall in the team scores.

Scotland finished overall second in the swimming behind Eastern England.

Ethan said: “It was such a great experience being down there and I would quite happily do it again. I met so many nice people and made some good friendships while being there, not just from Scotland but a few from other cadet counties within the UK.”
