WICK Academy boss Tom McKenna is still striving for the consistency he has been looking for since the start of the season after a disappointing display in the midweek North of Scotland Cup defeat at Dudgeon Park.

In an honest assessment of his side’s display, McKenna said: “We were outplayed and out-battled. I’ve no complaints whatsoever. I can’t argue with the result.

“I’m disappointed with our performance tonight, especially after Saturday. We’ve just not turned up.

“But that’s credit to Brora, the intensity of their play – they squeeze you down and harass you. They do it in numbers and they are organised.”

He added: “There has been a massive gulf between us and Brora over the two games. I don’t know if it is a mentality thing when the players are beaten before the start of the game. That is something we have to address when we come here again.

“I have no excuses for them, I can’t defend the lads, it was absolutely shocking from us – very disappointing.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s match against Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park, McKenna said: “I expect to get a reaction.”
