MARK Mackay made it two in a row when he scooped the 2011-2012 Thurso Squash Club League trophy.

Dedication is required for any competitor in this event as it spans a 12 month period from October to September, being organised in a round-robin format with a maximum of five players in each league.

Mark’s task to retain his title was by no means easy as for 11 months of the event, he played in the top league against the toughest opponents within the club and arguably, the county. But, he held his nerve in the final month to prevail and claim the trophy, which is sponsored by Doosan Power Systems.

Not to be left out, Mark’s wife Shona – in only her second squash season – managed to contend, battle and baffle strong opponents to climb the league ladders and accomplish a well deserved runners-up spot.

Third placed Guy Owen is always close to being a contender for a prize in this event and this was his year to join wife Pat, who finished in the same position for the 2003-2004 prize giving. Jane Grant and David Rosie missed out on a prize by four points, finishing fourth equal.
