Mark Boyd is hoping to make a splash for Scottish surfing on the international stage.

MARK Boyd hopes the cold waves of Thurso East can help Scotland achieve their best ever result in an international competition.

He is one of two surfers based in Thurso, along with Phoebe Strachan, who will compete at Eurosurf 2017 in Norway.

The competition takes place at Jaeren between October 7 to October 16.

Boyd, one of Scotland's most capped surfers, has experience of competing at Jaeren, having finished in fifth place at the Nordic Surf Games in Februrary.

After finishing second at the Scottish Surfing Championship at Thurso East in April, he is hoping he can make his experience of surfing in cold water count.

"I am delighted to be representing Scotland again and excited about having the Euros so close to home in Norway in water temperature we're used to.

"Some of our southern European counterparts wont be as used to the cold so I hope we can get our best result at the European Champs yet this year, we have a strong team and I'm feeling ready."

The team will be made up of eight surfers – two ladies, four men, a longboarder and a male and female bodyboarder.

The Scottish Surfing Federation have signed a sponsorship deal with The Comm Bar in Thurso to help the team travel to Norway next month.

The team are looking to raise at least £4500 to help them compete at Eurosurf and have launched a Crowdfunding campaign.
