Malcolm does enough to take silverware in Reay's McRobert Thistle Open
The summer golf season at Reay reached its conclusion at the weekend with the McRobert Thistle Open sponsored by CS Drilling Services offering the final chance for silverware.
Despite the blustery conditions some good scores were recorded in the event which was played to the Stableford format.
Lee Malcolm did just enough to bag the silverware on countback ahead of Kenny A Farmer, after both carded scores of 39 points. Malcolm’s tally came after an impressive round of 76 which included birdies at the fifth and ninth holes, while Farmer carded a round of 85.
Colin Paterson finished a point adrift in third place after an impressive round of 72 which included birdies at the sixth and 13th.
The Pilkington Cup is one of the older trophies at the club and this year it was Steve Efemey who had the honour of bagging it after a fine round of 75 gave him a nett 68. His halves of 36 and 39 included a brace of birdies at the eighth and 16th holes.
Lee Parnell had to settle for second place after an excellent round of 74 was good enough for nett 69, with a birdie at the 14th providing the highlight of his round.

Tom Ross kept up his recent rich vein of form to finish third after he also went around in 74 for a nett 70. Ross managed a hat-trick of birdies on the back nine at the 12th, 14th and 16th holes.
The Ross Bogey was played in wind and rain, with players using their handicap allowance to play against the course in a match-play format. On a day when the course came out on top, Simon Harper beat the rest of the field on a score of four down, with Sandy Chisholm taking second place on five down.
Lee Parnell and Steve Efemey combined beautifully to claim the Split Stane Texas Pairs event with a blistering round of 61 for nett 57.
