Main is Freswick Trophy winner at Thurso

Thurso Golf Club’s September series reached round three last Thursday. This is played over the nine-hole course and is Stableford scoring.

Bob Robertson (5) had six pars and three bogeys and was the overall winner with 20 points. This was one better than Donald Bain (7) who had the opposite with six bogeys and three pars.

Ryan Forbes (13) birdied the 13th as he returned 18 points and third place.

On Saturday the Freswick Trophy was played in windy but dry and warm conditions. The winner was Andrew Main (7).

Main birdied the second and sixth as he reached the turn in one over par. The back nine was tougher with the wind and Main had seven bogeys and two pars to record a 77, nett 70.

Nicky Doherty (6) had nothing worse than a bogey but unfortunately for him he had eight of them as he also returned a gross 77 for second place.

In third place was Steven Lowe (11) with a nett 72.

The medal was played for on Sunday and again the wind was making scoring tough. Ross Sutherland (11) finished with three pars to record a nett 70 and was the overall winner.

Donald Sutherland (7) played consistently, with his only mistake at the tough 16 as he recorded 78 for second place.

Nicky Doherty (6) had the lowest gross as he again returned a gross 77 after birdies at the eighth and 13th. However, a double bogey at the 18th proved costly for him.

Steven Lowe also emulated his score from Saturday, again recording a nett 72.
