ENDURANCE and determination were key for lifting the newly sponsored NUVIA Limited squash handicap trophy at Thurso Squash Club.

With a good entry and both halves of the draw bringing together some tasty contests, this two-day event had all the ingredients for a scrumptious weekend of squash.

In the main event, Mark Mackay and Davie Rosie just managed to pull away from a series of tough ties to reach the final.

Davie grabbed some vital points early in the contest and stretched away to what most thought was a winning first set with only a few points required in this best-of-three match.

A stuttering Davie left the door open for Mark, who never gives his opponent a second chance, to produce the goods and claw back the points needed to win the set.

With fatigue setting in on both players, it was now a battle of who could last longest and it was Mark who advanced to lift the title.

The plate trophy was won by youngster Sean Miller against seasoned campaigner Guy Owen.

Guy worked his way through some tricky ties to reach the final but Sean’s variety around the court proved to be the clincher in this contest.
