WEEK 18 in the Wick Wheelers’ 10-mile time trials saw 13 take part with two riders from Caithness Cycling Club.

The night also saw youngster Mark Webster achieve a new personal best time of 29.01, claiming ninth overall.

It was, however, a night to forget for Graeme Clyne as he failed to hold on to his 100 per cent record this season to finish third.

The ever-present battle between Charlie Mackay and Stuart Anderson led to an 11-second gap at the finish, with Anderson winning and claiming his first 30 points of the season.

Week 18 results: 1, S. Anderson, 25.33; 2, C. Mackay, 25.44; 3, G. Clyne, 26.08; 4, W. Sinclair, 26.42; 5, B. Grant, 26.45; 6eq, Joan Henry, 27.58, and L. Oliphant, 27.58; 8, S. Week 19 had eight hardy souls taking part on a wet evening. Two were awarded very strong PBs.

With a few regulars missing, the main battle was between the young Ben Arnold and Anderson.

Both riders were pushed to the limit but Arnold achieved a PB, putting first place out of the reach of Anderson.

The final Wick Wheelers’ 10-mile time trial was held last Thursday.

Eleven members fought it out for the remaining points on offer with some completing their allotted 15 races for the 10-mile time trial points league.

Clyne was already unbeatable in the points league, but the other places were not guaranteed with Mackay and Arnold close in second and third places respectively. It also saw Willie Sinclair climb to sixth overall.

On the night Mackay finished third on 26.02 but was well off the pace Arnold set at 25.24. Anderson kept his end-of-season form to beat his PB time to finish on 25.02.

With this result, Mackay held onto second overall by three points from youngster Arnold. Anderson took fourth overall and Brian Grant finished in fifth place.
