Macgregor takes top division honours in Christmas Cracker darts event
Harper’s bar and function suite was the venue for Wick and District Darts League’s Christmas Cracker event, which attracted a record post-Covid turnout.
Three singles competitions took place, with Marc Macgregor (Seaview) taking the honours in the top division.
Macgregor started with a 3-0 win against David Simpson (Queen’s), then had a 3-1 victory over Seaforth player Martin Nicolson followed by a 3-2 success against Damon Meikle (Harper’s).
Richard Thain awaited him in the semi-final but the Old Smiddy Inn player was beaten 3-0.
The final brought a 3-1 victory over the in-form pentathlon leader Kevin Donald (Castletown Poachers).
In the ladies’ competition, Alison Tait (Seaforth “B”) came out on top without losing a leg, defeating Liz Ronaldson (Queen’s “B”) 3-0 in the final.
Alison had earlier taken out Morgan Perry and Freda Perry by the same scoreline.
Lybster Comm’s Donald Sutherland lifted the division two title, seeing off a gallant display by Lee Robertson (Seaforth “C”) with a 3-1 scoreline.
Six maximums were hit. Marc Macgregor (Seaview) had two, with the others coming from Donald Sutherland (Comm), David Miller (Old Smiddy Inn), Richard Thain (Old Smiddy Inn) and Kevin Donald (Castletown Poachers).
There were three ton-plus checkouts. These came from Richard Thain (Old Smiddy Inn, 146), Aidan Sutherland (Castletown Poachers, 144) and Ryan Campbell (Seaview, 120).
Simpson (Contractors) representative Adam Green presented the prizes.
This was the final event of 2024 for Wick and District Darts League.
The action will resume on Tuesday, January 7, with the Knockout Cup quarter-finals: Seaforth v Seaview; RBL v Castletown Poachers; Norseman v Comm; Smiddy “3” v Old Smiddy Inn.
