WICK Academy stalwart Richard Macadie will tee off his testimonial year with a golf day at Wick Golf Club this Saturday.
The midfielder’s time with the Harmsworth Park side will be celebrated over the course of the next 12 months with a number of events.
Aside from the golf day, it is expected that a horse-racing night, a charity dinner with guest speakers and a match involving Academy and an as yet invited team will be staged to honour the player.
Macadie, who made his debut for Wick against Huntly in August 2003, is a popular figure at the club with his tenacity in midfield and his goalscoring ability.
Organiser Andy Falconer is hoping for a good turnout at the Reiss course and revealed there will be some prizes up for grabs.
He said: “We’ll aim to meet out there at midday for a drink and a bacon roll before teeing off between 12.30 and 2pm, depending on numbers. There will be food available after the round – possibly a barbecue.
“This is open to anyone, no matter how good or bad you are at golf. The format will be teams of four playing a Texas Scramble, which is a good way for non-golfers to get out and have a hit.
“There will be prizes for overall winners, plus a prize for the longest drive and closest to the pin.
“Rich-ard will be playing as well. I think he got the idea from his former Wick team-mate, Gary ‘Chuckie’ Weir, who had a golf day during his testimonial year, and it was enjoyed by all.
“However, even though Richard has been playing these last couple of years, his football is much better than his golf. Some of his current team-mates will be along – although abilities with a golf club vary so some windows may get a stray ball.
“There will be other events as well but we are hoping to get a good response to this one and then we can plan ahead for three or four other events during the season which will hopefully end in a testimonial match at Harmsworth Park.
“We don’t know who that will be against as we will have to see who will be available as the season goes on.”
