AFTER three rounds of 10 ends played in a round-robin format, two teams from Lybster Bowling Club made it to the final of the Mabbutt Open Pairs.

Sandy Robertson and David Mackay (skip) won all three matches prior to the final and were the only team with a 100 per cent record. They awaited the outcome of the match between the Golspie pair of Jean Johnson and Mark Airey (skip), who had two wins under their collective belts, and the Lybster pair of Andy McCrae and Malky Sutherland (skip), who had a win and a draw prior to the final round.

It was the Lybster pair who were to triumph by one shot at the last end to go through nine shots to eight.

The final, played over 12 ends at Lybster, saw Robertson and Mackay race into an early lead of eight shots to one after five ends and, although pulled back to 8-5 after seven ends, they picked up three shots at the eighth end and never looked back to win by 14 shots to five after 11 ends.
