Loss to champions won’t define our season, says High Ormlie Hotspur’s Lewis Gallacher

Lewis Gallacher was disappointed with the manner of High Ormlie Hotspur’s home defeat to Pentland United but is adamant that it won’t define their season.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who is part of the High Ormlie management team, highlighted the quality of the squad and said he was proud of their start to the campaign.

Speaking after the 4-2 loss to the champions at Ormlie on Tuesday, Gallacher admitted: “We weren’t at the races tonight.

“We had good spells, we had a chance in the first 10 minutes and James More pulled off a good save, but we just couldn’t kick on from there.”

Hotspur remain second in Division One. They are among eight Caithness teams into the second round of the Highland Amateur Cup and next up is a Stannergill Cup quarter-final against Staxigoe United in Wick.

“We’ll look towards Friday against a good Staxigoe side who are in a good bit of form,” Gallacher said.

It was the first defeat of the campaign for Hotspur in all competitions.

“The boys have been class,” Gallacher said. “We’ve got a good squad, we had good numbers tonight, and we’ve got Kevin Cairns as well who unfortunately couldn’t make it up. He’s fantastic.

“I’m really proud of the start we’ve had, and a result like that doesn’t define a season.”
