The weather put a damper on activity for Caithness Cycling Club.

IT was a week of restricted activity for Caithness Cycling Club with no open racing in the south and only one rider in the local weekly 10-mile time trial.

This unique happening was due to very stormy conditions earlier in the day and, although they eased considerably for the 7pm start, only Roger Broughton reported to the timekeeper, Dave Morrill.

As a result, his time of 30 min 25 sec gave him six points in the handicap league and lifted him into second position behind Heath MacKay.

After seven races – a third of the way through the season – the leading positions are as follows: 1, H. MacKay (20 points); 2, R. Broughton (18); 3, A. Sutherland (16); 4eq, R. Murdoch and P. Cartwright (11); 6, R. Cartwright (10); 7eq, R. Toswill and G. Angus (7); 9, Angela Bain (6); 10, A. Washington (5).

This week club members have a full programme.

They travel to Forres for a ?10-mile time trial tomorrow afternoon and the North of Scotland 25-mile Championship on Sunday morning.

The weekly 10-mile race is on Tuesday evening and the annual Thurso-to-Wick Interclub event is on Thursday between the two local clubs, Caithness Cycling Club and Wick Wheelers.
