Caithness Krakens have got the luck of the draw in the National Plate competition which gets under way next month.

The third-tier competition sees four groups of four teams vying for the top spot, which secures a semi-final place.

Mike Flavell's side are among the highest-ranked in the tournament and two of their three group games are at home.

It gives the Caledonia North Region League 2 runners-up an opportunity to emulate their feat in getting through to the last four of the National Bowl in their debut season in 2022.

They kick off with a match versus Dundee Valkyries 2nd XV at Millbank on February 3, hoping to repeat their win over the city side they achieved during that cup run.

They then travel to the Valkyries' Caley Midlands/East Region League 2 counterparts Bannockburn on February 17 and complete their section ties with a home match against Caley North Region League 3 runners-up Lochaber on March 9.

The Caithness women won five of their six matches in Caledonia North Region League 2 but had to settle for second place behind winners Highland in the four-team division.

Five local businesses have shown their support for women's rugby in Caithness by becoming strip sponsors for the Krakens. They are T8 Construction (Scott Tait); Superclean of Thurso (Karl Drummond); Malcolm’s of Caithness (Kris Malcolm); Caithness Ventilation Services (Mark Foubister); and Sinclair Glazing and Joinery (Donald Henderson).
