The Krakens are on their travels this weekend as they head for Fife on cup business.

The Caithness women's side have had a frustrating spell, with both their scheduled National Plate group ties following their opening victory away to Edinburgh University having been postponed.

With two bonus-point wins under their belts, Strathmore are probably favourites and the Krakens need a victory versus Kirkcaldy to keep pace with them.

Their opponents, who finished third of six in the Caley Midlands Conference, defeated the students before going down to Strathmore.

Caithness coach Mike Flavell is expecting to face a tough challenge on Sunday, especially as three of his regular backs are not available.

"We'll be a bit forward-heavy and so a couple are going to have to play out of position," he said.

"I'm sure they will be pretty tough, especially at home, but we will be looking to give it our best shot."

Strathmore will be aiming to notch up their third victory when they play the Edinburgh students on Friday evening.

Local rugby fans can get a fix of live action in the county on Saturday when Caithness men's 2nd XV entertain Inverness Craig Dunain in the second phase of Caley North 3.

Home coach Cameron Boyd will be hoping to follow up the 36-15 win his team notched up against the city side in Thurso at the end of October. It kicks off at 3pm.

Caithness under-16s boys, meanwhile, will be bidding to end the season with a trophy when they line up against Carnoustie in Invergordon in the final of the Saltire Energy Caledonia Quaich on Sunday.

Donald Buchanan's side won the north qualifying section after defeating Lochaber 47-36 and were given a walkover when Shetland could not raise a team to travel to Thurso.

Carnoustie topped the Midlands section.
