A BIT of history was made at Wick Golf Club this week as Nicky Klimas set a new course record of 64.

The scores for the second round of the Glenmorangie Putter Eclectic had been nothing extraordinary, given the challenging conditions on Wednesday.

Russell Angus made the best of it to turn in a score of 73 (7) 66 for an excellent 39 points which included birdies at the eighth and 12th. He was the leader in the clubhouse until early evening when past captain Rob Sutherland came in with a 79 (16) 63, making his 42 points a lofty target.

However, one player was up for the challenge. Klimas, playing alongside Gordie Steven, stormed round in 64 (2) 62, attaining 43 points and, probably more importantly, a new course record – beating the previous score of 65 held by Dougie Thorburn.

Klimas had six birdies, 11 pars and one bogey on the seventh.
