The weekend saw the winter season reach its climax at Reay Golf Club with the final two rounds of the gents’ winter league stableford played on Saturday and Sunday.

Round 21 was won by Dylan Mackenzie, who is one of several promising youngsters coming through the ranks at the club. His excellent haul of 39 points – which included a rare birdie at the 10th hole – was good enough to secure the win on countback ahead of Sandy Chisholm, who also scored 39 points.

A birdie at the 12th hole provided the highlight of an otherwise steady round from Chisholm.

Steve Efemey maintained his fine recent form to take third place on 37 points with birdies at the 3rd and 6th helping him along the way. Four players, Jock Eunson, Doug Mackenzie, Evan Sutherland, and Donald Mowat, shared fourth place on 36 points.

Round 22 saw David Mackay record 41 points to top the standings, with a fantastic birdie at the tough opening hole setting the tone for an excellent round of golf.

Donald Mowat continued his productive weekend to secure second place on 37 points, with a birdie at the 10th the high point of his round. David R Craig took third place after a steady round gave him 34 points, ahead of Kenny Farmer (Jnr) and Cammie Ross who both scored 33 points.

In the final overall winter league standings, it was Kenny Farmer (Jnr) who bagged the silverware with an excellent six-round aggregate score of 230. A model of consistency throughout the winter, Farmer (Jnr) claimed a deserved victory with his counting scores ranging from 36 to 43 points.

Cammie Ross made a late charge to finish in second place on 218, with Evan Sutherland and Sandy Chisholm finishing two points further back on 216. David R Craig and Kenny Farmer (Snr) were next best on 215.

In the latest action in the senior stableford competition, Pete McCartney managed no less than four birdies at the 1st, 15th, 16th and 17th holes on his way to a fantastic winning score of 44 points. Donald Mowat birdied the 8th on his way to finishing second place on 39 points, with David Mackay, Malcolm Thomson, Murdo Macdonald and Ian Ross all finishing a point further back on 38.

This weekend sees the summer season kicking off with the traditional Captain v Vice Captain match on Saturday, while on Sunday the gents will be competing in the Ward Trophy and High Handicap competitions.
