Player/manager Bradley Thomson insists Keiss “won’t get carried away” after opening up an eight-point lead at the top of Caithness AFA Division Two.

The village side maintained their promotion push with an emphatic 6-0 victory over second-placed Thurso Swifts at Bayview Park on Thursday night.

Keiss have won six of their opening seven league fixtures, their only defeat so far having come at the start of the week when they were beaten 3-2 at home by Top Joe’s.

“The season is going very well but we still have five league games remaining,” Thomson said.

“We want to go and win the remaining games but won’t get carried away with ourselves as every game is a tough one. Full credit to Top Joe’s as they deserved to beat us on Monday.”

Olly Manton and Tony Miller have been prolific up front for Keiss and they were at it again on Thursday, with Manton helping himself to four goals and Miller getting the other two.

Keiss finished second last year before losing out 3-0 to Castletown in the end-of-season play-off.

However, Thomson would not be drawn on whether his team are favourites for the automatic promotion place this time around. The three teams closest to them in the table, Swifts (10 points), Halkirk (9) and Watten (9), have each played one game fewer.

“Everyone else can judge who are favourites but we will just take one game at a time,” Thomson said.

“Olly and Tony are giving us exactly what we expect but the rest of the team deserve full credit too for allowing our forwards to play and not conceding many goals.”

Thurso Acks picked up their second win of the Division Two campaign with a 2-1 victory over town rivals Pentland at the Dammies. Harvey Labor and Lewis Fraser scored for Acks, with Pentland’s goal coming from Kian Helliwell.
