Castletown driver Jack Ryan and his navigator Robin Nicolson finished within four seconds of first place in round six of the Junior 1000 Ecosse challenge at Kames Motorsport Complex in East Ayrshire at the weekend.

They were among 17 J1000 crews contesting the Afton Glen Meats Galston Kames Summer Junior Stages in what turned out to be one of the closest events of the season so far, with a three-way battle for top spot.

Jack's Volkswagen Up ended up being pipped by the Citigo of Rian Walker and Stuart McBride who claimed their third win of the season.

Third place went to championship leader Oliver Phillips and Barry Young (Citigo), finishing nine seconds down on second place and maintaining their record of a podium finish on every round so far in 2023.

Thomas Milne and Neil Jeffrey (Micra) took fourth place.

Jack is still second in the season-long championship for drivers aged 14-17. He has 152 points, 16 behind Oliver Phillips.

Round seven sees the crews head to Kinloss Barracks for the Kinloss Stages on September 23.
