Castletown karting ace Jack Ryan took top spot in his section at the latest Motorsport UK licensed event at the Golspie track.

The 16-year-old finished ahead of runner-up Mark Paterson (Huntly) and third-placed Matilda Brazier (Newmachar) in the Junior Max competition.

The weather stayed dry all weekend and there was a good turnout with 46 entrants from all over Scotland.

After a good practice on the Saturday, Jack began heat one third on the grid and quickly made his way up to second.

He was catching pole but, pushing hard, ran himself wide onto grass and was disappointed to finish in third position.

He started second on the grid in heat two and soon made it up to first in what proved to be a difficult race, with everyone fighting for top spot. Jack was bumped again at infield but managed to stay on track and he took the win.

Starting on pole in heat three, Jack got a great start and led to the end.

His efforts in the heats ensured Jack was on pole for the final. It was a tough 10 minutes of close racing, with positions changing a couple of times, but Jack took the chequered flag in first place.

The next race is at Golspie on the last weekend of May.
