Castletown motorsport competitor Jack Ryan just missed out on a podium place in the opening round of the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge, Scotland's rally championship for those aged 14-17.
Twelve of the Scottish Junior 1000 crews descended on the Ingliston racing circuit for round one, the DCC Junior Stages, joined by eight crews from the English championship. Eight stages would make up the event, held in dry and sunny conditions.
Jack (16) and navigator Robin Nicolson, in a Volkswagen Up, made up the only car crewed by Saltire Rally Club. Jack and Robin finished seventh overall and fourth in the Scottish junior rally, missing out on a podium place by two seconds to Letisha Conn from Ireland.
The weekend had got off to a bad start when their van heading south broke down at Berriedale. Alan Gow came to the rescue with his Ford Ranger.
Out on the stages the only issue was catching cars. In fact they were on the horn so much they blew a fuse in the car, meaning some stages had to be tackled with no intercom.
It was an impressive result for Jack in a field of 20 starters from across the UK and Ireland. This was only his second time competing in a rally.
In the senior rally, Jack navigated for Sandy Coghill from Bower in his 1800cc Rover. Sandy finished 42nd out of 69 entries.
Jack's next rally is on May 15 at Kames.
