Jack Ryan finished a highly creditable 26th overall and second in class in his Snowman Rally debut at the weekend.

The 18-year-old from Castletown, who was accompanied by co-driver Robin Nicolson, had been seeded 64th.

Jack was fulfilling a childhood ambition after stepping up from the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge in which he was top Scottish driver two years in a row.

He completed the six stages in an overall time of 47:03 in the Subaru Impreza, taking second place in the six-strong class C4.

The penultimate round of the Scottish Rally Championship saw 74 drivers competing for the title as they raced through Inverness-shire and Ross-shire.

Jack was sponsored by Groats Gifts and the John O’Groats business also provided hoodies for the rally team.

The event started and finished at the Black Isle Showground, with Garry Pearson dominating from start to finish as he took the title for the first time.

The Duns driver, along with co-driver Hannah McKillop, claimed victory in a time of 39 minutes and 34 seconds in a Ford Fiesta Rally2.

They were 37 seconds ahead of John Wink of Huntly with co-driver Neil Shanks in second place driving a Hyundai R20 i5.

The rally had been postponed by seven months as it was not possible to hold it in its traditional month of March.

Title sponsor for the rally was AM Phillip Trucktech.

Last year Jack competed for the final time in the season-long Junior Ecosse competition for drivers aged 14-17.
