‘I didn’t expect it’: Macgregor is Wick supporters’ choice as player of the year
Marc Macgregor admitted he was surprised to be named as the Wick Academy supporters’ player of the year for 2024/25.
The 30-year-old striker was presented with the George Munro Memorial Cup after the 4-2 victory over Nairn County at Harmsworth Park – the Scorries’ last home game of the season.
Macgregor was unable to play after picking up an injury in training.
Votes had been taken at the previous home match, the 4-1 win against Lossiemouth.
“I didn’t expect it, to be honest – it surprised me,” Macgregor said. “I’m delighted I got it.

“I always work hard, that’s for sure. I’m not scoring as many goals as I probably should be scoring, but as long as we’re winning and I’m helping.”
Academy have had five wins and an away draw in their last six outings and remain on course to equal, or surpass, last season’s 36-point tally. They are on 33 points with away games to come against Strathspey Thistle and Inverurie Locos.
Macgregor hopes the team can start next season as well as they are finishing this one.
“It’s a shame it took so long,” he said. “The young boys coming in have made a fair difference.
“The way we are playing, and turning teams, it just seems to be working better.”
Orkney teenager George Ewing was presented with the Dan Thomson Trophy for youth player of the year.
