Winning the Eain Mackintosh Cup was extra-special for High Ormlie Hotspur forward James Mackintosh.

The 24-year-old is a nephew of the late Eain, in whose memory the competition is played, and was invited to step forward to receive the trophy from his grandmother Mary Mackintosh after the remarkable 6-0 victory over Wick Groats.

Mackintosh got the opener just before half-time in Saturday's showdown in front of a bumper crowd at sunny Recreation Park in Halkirk.

The second was credited as an own goal, Ben Gordon got the third and then Mark Munro took centre stage, helping himself to a hat-trick as Groats were left shell-shocked.

"It's a bit special winning it because he was my uncle – my dad's brother," Mackintosh said.

On the game itself, he added: "It was quite tight in the first half. In the second half I thought they'd come into it a bit more but Mark Munro is so fast onto balls over the top and he's on fire just now."

It was Munro's first treble as a High Ormlie Hotspur player.

"It's a really good feeling, especially against Wick Groats as they are such a hard team," the 18-year-old said. "We played well, all over the park.

"The chances came and we took them well, luckily enough."

Munro agreed that the victory helped to make up for the disappointment of being knocked out of the Highland Amateur Cup, which High Ormlie won last summer.

He said: "In every game there's such a good team spirit, win or lose."
