Highland League round-up: Leaders Buckie extend gap to Brechin in title race
Buckie Thistle dropped two points in the Highland League title race after being held to a 1-1 draw by Rothes at Victoria Park.
The Speysiders took the lead on 61 minutes through Aidan Wilson, but the Jags were level within 60 seconds thanks to Josh Peters.
League leaders Buckie put on some late pressure but were limited to few clear cut chances by a resilient Rothes rearguard.
The gap to second place Brechin City is now nine points, but the Angus side – who visit Victoria Park on the last day of the season – have four games in hand.
Jags manager Graeme Stewart praised his players for picking up seven points from nine against Banks O' Dee, Brora Rangers and Rothes.
"We wanted to win, but if you'd offered us seven points out of those three games we would have probably taken that," he said.
"It could be a massive point at the end of the season. Hopefully we can go and win the rest of our games and maybe win the league."
Brechin's game at Keith was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Kynoch Park.
Brora Rangers, currently fourth in the league, edged out Nairn County 2-1. Jordan MacRae and Millar Gamble struck first half goals for Brora, but the Wee County replied after the break through Fraser Dingwall.
Elsewhere in the Highland League, Banks O’ Dee put three past hosts Fraserburgh without reply, while Turriff thrashed bottom side Strathspey Thistle 5-0 at The Haughs and Deveronvale defeated visiting Forres 2-1 with a Horace Ormsby winner near the end.
Clachnacuddin maintained hopes of a top-half finish after shooting down Lossiemouth in Moray with a 2-0 win.
The goals came in 22 minutes when Harry Hennem’s fine cross forced Lossie defender Dean Stewart into an own goal, before Brindle made sure late on from Bunce’s supply.
Victory took Clach up to 12th place, six points behind ninth-placed Huntly with a game in hand.
Huntly and Inverurie Locos played out a 1-1 draw at Christie Park.
