WICK boss Tom McKenna is hoping Neil Lennon is one of the Hibs party getting off the team bus on Sunday because he wants to pick the brains of the Easter Road gaffer.

A Hibernian XI will arrive at Harmsworth Park to take on Academy in the latest round of pre-season matches for the Scorries.

However, it is not yet clear if Lennon will be in Caithness or how strong a Hibs team will be sent up the road.

As the John O’Groat Journal went to print, Hibs were kicking off at Easter Road in their opening Europa League fixture against Faroese side NSI Runavik.

If Hibs win their first leg comfortably or don’t receive too many injuries then both manager and his stars may show up at Wick. But if next week’s second leg hangs in the balance, the word from Edinburgh is that a group of youth team players managed by Hibs’ academy director, Grant Murray, will be at Harmsworth Park.

McKenna said: “I hope Neil comes up. We all know what he’s done in the game – both as a player and a manager.

“It would be good to see him, not only because he’s a big name for the fans to see, but also his presence would provide myself and the rest of the coaching staff with a great opportunity.

“If we have some time before or after the game, it would be good to get a moment with him to pick his brains and learn one or two things about the game that can help us improve our own coaching abilities.

“As for what team Hibs will bring with them, I’ve heard that perhaps one or two of the more recognised names will be coming up but I guess all of that depends on what happens in their European tie.

“However, even if it is a group of reserves, they’ll be a tougher proposition than the young squad that Ross County sent up because of the higher level that Hibs operate at.”

McKenna also insists the game is a massive opportunity for his players – not just the prospect of beating a Premiership club but also because they have a chance to try and impress the Hibernian coaching staff and maybe land a shot at the big time.

He added: “This is a huge opportunity for our boys. The window is there for one or more of our players to seriously impress someone in the Hibs camp.

“If they can catch the eye of someone then it could lead to a trial period at Easter Road which in turn could lead to a huge move to a big club.”
