Thurso Senior Ladies' Open was sponsored by Rock Rose this year and the ladies were trying their hardest as they all wanted to get their hands on a nice bottle of locally produced gin.

The heavens had opened early in the day, but luckily for the ladies the rain stopped 10 minutes before play began and cleared up for all competitors. There was a healthy turnout of 35 competitors with visitors from Reay, Wick, Stromness and Orkney golf clubs.

First scratch went to Eileen Manson with a score of 85 which included pars at the first, sixth, ninth, 10th, 16th and 17th.

First nett was Jennifer Watt, from Stromness, with a nett score of 69 – the only under-par round of the day. She managed a par at the 12th, Thurso's longest par three.

Runner-up was fellow club member Doreen Garson with a nett 75.

In third was home member Alison Campbell with a steady round including four pars, while fourth-placed Jean Clasper had a nice par at the 14th hole. Angela Williamson was fifth, after finishing with two pars, and sixth was Orkney Golf Club member Moira Nicholson who parred the two troublesome holes of nine and 13.

Longest drive in the bronze section was by Jane Grant and, in the silver section, Pam Bain from Reay.
