Halkirk move to within a point of leaders in Caithness winter shooting league





After 11 rounds of Caithness Small Bore Rifle Association’s postal winter league programme, Halkirk “A” outscored the Division One leaders Pentland “A” and are now only one point behind.

In Division Two, Westfield “A” hold on to a two-point lead, while Huntly “B” and Dallas are in joint pole position in Division Three. Keiss and Westfield “B” both have a four-point gap over their nearest rivals in the fourth and fifth divisions respectively .

Division One: (points dropped ex 400) Wick Old Stagers “A” 5, Watten “A” 9. Scores (ex 100) – Wick “A”: H Simpson 100, D Simpson 99, SS Nicolson 99, AW Paul 97. Watten: D Bremner 98, S Henderson 98, D Wilson 98, J Henderson 97.

Halkirk “A” 7, Pentland “A” 14. Scores – Halkirk: W Campbell 100, J Campbell 98, R Campbell 98, J Fraser 97. Pentland “A”: G Begg 98, R Brown 97, P Richard 96, D Mowat 95.

Huntly “A” 13, Bogey 10.

H Simpson (Wick OS “A”) and W Campbell (Halkirk “A”) were the round’s top scorers with 100.

Division Two: Stirkoke “A” 29, Westfield “A” 19. Scores – Stirkoke: G Robertson 97, J M Sutherland 93, G Cameron 93, DG Henderson 88. Westfield: M Mackenzie 98, M Mackay 97, GA Mackay 96, J Manson 90.

Orkney 400, Halkirk “B” 15. Scores – Halkirk: R Levack 98, S Yuille 97, T Hawes 95, G Levack 95.

Watten “B” 17, Wick OS “B” 20. Scores – Watten: N Brims 98, G Bremner 96, B Mackay 96, D Thompson 93. Wick “B”: I Simpson 98, G Sutherland 96, S Nicolson 95, A Tait 91.

M Mackenzie (Westfield “A”), R Levack (Halkirk “B”), N Brims (Watten "B") and I Simpson (Wick “B”) were the round’s top scorers with 98.

Division Three: Huntly “B” 14, Dallas 12.

Pentland “B” 22, Lairg 23. Scores – Pentland: J Coghill 97, P Gates 96, WD Steven 95, WD Mowat 90.

Stirkoke “B” 14, Dingwall 18. Scores – Stirkoke: R Innes 100, G Henderson 96, I Gunn 95, A Webster 95.

G Sutherland (Dallas) and R Innes (Stirkoke “B”) returned a perfect score of 100.

Division Four: Keiss 29, Stirkoke “C” 38. Scores – Keiss: A Johnston 94, B Cormack 93, J Harrold 92, W Mackay 92. Stirkoke: J Cameron 94, G Hendry 93, D Henderson 88, B Sutherland 87.

Top score of the round was 100 by K Macaulay (Watten “C”).

M Sutherland (Westfield “B”) and N Cruickshank (Huntly “C”) returned the division’s best score of 95.

Junior individual league: Round seven – Individual scores (ex 100): J Bremner 90, J Macadie 81; G Campbell 93, A Mackay 87; J Singh 91, E Swanson (withdrawn).

Caithness Small Bore Rifle Association is competing in Division One of the National Small-bore Rifle Association’s postal league for the Kolar Gold Mine Challenge Trophy.
