Craig Gunn helped himself to four goals as Wick Academy continued their preparations for the new Highland League season with a 6-2 victory over Golspie Sutherland in a friendly at Harmsworth Park on Tuesday night.

Davie Allan was also on target against the North Caledonian League side, and the other came via an own goal.

Academy manager Gary Manson said: "The game went well on what was an extremely heavy and difficult pitch.

"I thought we played some very good football at times and were clinical in the final third.

"Craig has been in good form since we started playing friendlies so hopefully he continues that into the competitive games."

The match marked a return to Harmsworth Park for former Academy midfielder Sam Mackay, who has agreed to manage Golspie until at least the end of the season.

Mackay said: “It was a great exercise – the score was irrelevant. It was a chance to see boys in action and there were plenty of positives to take from it.”
