Caithness are preparing to travel to play Aberdeen Wanderers fresh from the latter's traumatic derby mauling at the hands of Ellon.

The city outfit shipped 14 tries in a 94-0 defeat at Groats Road.

The Greens are wary of a backlash on Saturday as they look to complete a Caley 1 League double over Wanderers.

Head coach Ewen Boyd said he will not want his side to read anything into last Saturday's result and is keen to have them entirely focus on their own performance.

He said: "I know Wanderers have struggled throughout the season in terms of personnel. You don't know what team they are going to put out.

"They don't have a particularly physical pack but they have a good back line."

Boyd was in his sick bed when Caithness posted a 34-10 win over Wanderers at Millbank at the start of November.

After a competitive first half, the visitors faded badly as a combination of injuries and sin-binings meant they finished the game with 13 men.

On the personnel front, Boyd is more or less resigned to scrum-half Kris Hamilton and centre Dougie Webster being out for the season with leg and shoulder injuries respectively.

There will be late checks on a clutch of players nursing various knocks but it is hoped Marc Anderson will be fit to play fly-half. Definitely missing will be Marc's brother Grant, who is offshore.

After a fixture list disrupted by Covid and weather postponements, Boyd is hoping their remaining six games go ahead as scheduled.

Their season, as it stands, ends with a home match against Blairgowrie on April 9.

Ellon's win on Saturday allowed them to leapfrog Caithness into third, while Hillfoots' 23-3 home victory over Blairgowrie puts them fifth, two points behind the Greens.
