Members of the front-row union weighed in with three tries as the Greens racked up a 34-5 victory over Aberdeen Wanderers on Saturday.

Loose head Mark Nicolson contributed two short-range counters before a similar effort from replacement prop Ally Williams ensured they finished with a flourish in their final home game of the Caley North 1 season.

Euan MacDonald, Kevin Budge and Gordie Macleod were the other try scorers as they competed a double over the league's whipping boys.

The game went ahead on a dry, calm day on a sticky surface with a dazzling low sun causing problems for the visitors in fielding high balls in the first half.

In their defeat by league leaders Dunfermline in their last outing, the Greens were hobbled by a retreating scrum, misfiring lineout and indiscipline which saw them concede penalties galore at the breakdown.

While the lineout gremlins persisted, the other two aspects were addressed on Saturday when they were seldom on the back foot.

Had they converted more of their extended sorties into the opposition 22, Wanderers could have been at the end of a real hiding.

Relentless pressure from the kick-off ended with Nicolson barrelling over after a surge from a five-metre lineout on five minutes.

Dogged defence ensured the visitors' line was not breached again until midway through the half when Budge made the crucial carry before scrum-half MacDonald darted over.

Jamie Mowat converted what was to be the last score of the first half.

Nicolson was prominent soon after the restart with a feisty charge which was repelled five metres out.

The prop was not to be denied as on 52 minutes he touched down with a carbon copy of his first, off the back of a catch-and-drive lineout.

Reece Coghill then ran hard to create the platform for Budge to pick up and strong-arm his way over under the posts, making Mowat's conversion a formality.

Caithness were in full flow and were increasingly spreading the ball wide with young wingers Max Kennedy and Ruaridh Mackay both regularly involved.

A five-yard scrum was the source of the Greens' fifth try, with MacDonald probing the blind side and feeding full-back Macleod who romped over.

The final try six minutes from time stemmed from yet another set-piece, this time Williams getting the credit after a lineout drive collapsed in-goal.

The final action saw man-of-the-match Coghill run clear en route to a seemingly inevitable try he would have fully deserved for his unstinting workrate. But the number eight suffered a leg cramp as he looked to round the last defender just inside the 22.

His would-be pass to Mackay went to ground where it was scooped up by visiting full-back Scott Byars.

He set off on a run to outflank last defender Williams before touching down. Jack Geddes's unsuccessful conversion heralded no-side.
