Caithness hope for return to winning ways.

THE Greens will be hoping to get back on the winning trail when they entertain Mackie Academy FPs at Millbank in Thurso tomorrow.

Two successive defeats have consigned Caithness to the wrong end of the RBS Caledonian 1 table while they will be going all out to avert a fourth successive reverse before their own support.

Coach Donald MacIntosh sees tomorrow’s match as a must-win to get their season back on track.

He said: “When we have played the game the way we want to play and at a high tempo, teams have found it very difficult to play against us.

“We have a very capable bunch of guys but we need to retain our level of commitment and work rate for the whole 80 minutes.

“We had one of our best training sessions of the season on Tuesday and we’re all looking forward to Saturday.”

Loose forward Grant Anderson is set to make his long-awaited return from a long-term shoulder injury.

He has been showing up well at training and is expected to win a place on the bench. Norman Foubister and James Sinclair are both available with wingers Martin Oswald and Craig Spargo also back in the frame.

With skipper Sinclair Dunnett also back in harness, the pack should be along usual lines.

Centre Graham Poke is an injury doubt with a late decision expected on who is going to play the problem full-back position.

Their Stonehaven opponents have recovered after a dodgy start to the season and moved above Caithness following two solid home victories versus Aberdeen University and Glenrothes.

The match kicks off at 2pm.

n In the only league match played last Saturday, Orkney scored a convincing 62-19 home victory against Aberdeen University.

The match also doubled as a second-round tie in the RBS Caledonian Shield.

In other ties, Aberdeenshire went down 27-22 at Hillfoots; Strathmore won 25-19 at Gordonians, and Dunfermline defeated Ellon 22-5.
