CAITHNESS have three away days to complete their RBS Caley 1 season, starting with a trip to Stonehaven tomorrow.
A clutch of absentees for their meeting with Mackie Academy FPs means Greens coach Colin Sangster has a fair bit of surgery to do, especially in the front five.
Mackie won 27-5 in Thurso at the start of November and will be going all out to mark their final home outing by completing a double. Sangster is looking for his side to put behind them the 17-3 loss to Hillfoots in their last game. When he took over before Christmas, he set his troops a target of winning their remaining seven games.
With the defeat coming after three good victories, Sangster is now calling on his troops to harvest as many points as possible from their remaining fixtures.
Caithness will miss lock John Miller who is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury. Captain and prop Sinclair Dunnett is also sidelined with a neck injury while lock Andy Morris is unavailable and backs Graham Fryer and Neil Smith are offshore.
Tommy Sutherland is back from an overseas holiday while fellow prop Mark Nicolson has recovered from a knock he picked up in the Hillfoots match. Roddy Gray is also available.
Last Saturday, second-placed Hillfoots closed the gap on leaders Aberdeenshire to 10 points with a 19-9 win away to Aberdeen University.
In the other match Strathmore added to Gordonians’ relegation fears when they edged out the city side 16-14 at Countesswells. Orkney, meanwhile, were defeated 25-6 by Dunfermline in the final of the Caledonian Shield.
