Three good causes are to benefit from a raffle marking the 40th anniversary of the Eain Mackintosh Cup, one of three county knockout tournaments open to all Caithness AFA clubs.

Eain played for Halkirk FC and a memorial cup was commissioned after he died in a tragic accident. The final is always played in the village, with this year’s showdown scheduled for Saturday, July 5.

The club and the Mackintosh family are commemorating the 40th year of the competition by holding a raffle with the proceeds going to Macmillan nurses, the Couthie Corner in Thurso and Halkirk FC juniors

The draw will take place on cup final day at Recreation Park.

First prize is £500, donated by Halkirk FC, and second prize is a two-night stay at Glengolly Getaways, donated by the Mackintosh family.

Many other prizes are on offer and these are listed on the club’s Facebook page.

Halkirk officials say they are grateful to everyone who has donated and to all the local football clubs and referees who have helped sell raffle tickets.

High Ormlie Hotspur have won the tournament two seasons in a row, beating Wick Groats 6-0 in the 2023 final and defeating Staxigoe United 2-0 last year.

On each occasion, High Ormlie Hotspur’s James Mackintosh, a nephew of the late Eain, received the trophy from his grandmother Mary Mackintosh.
