Girl power not enough in pairs challenge
The top half of the draw was littered with strong pairings. After some hard-fought games, Alf MacKay and Peter Dymond jnr made it to the semi-finals where they squared up to Julie Knapp and Lorna McDermid.
Julie and Lorna made a good start and were 7-2 up after four ends but Alf and Peter picked up a five to level the match on the fifth end.
But they could not sustain the pressure and Julie and Lorna made their way into the final.
The bottom half of the draw saw the strong duo of Jill Tewnion and Ronnie Bain snr face Nancy MacAdie and Harry Cormack in the semis.
Nancy and Harry pulled out some great bowls but just came up short of upsetting the favourites, as Jill and Ronnie progressed to the final in a close game.

It looked as if it was going to be a case of girl power for the second week in a row when Julie and Lorna held a three-shot lead with three ends to go, but Jill and Ronnie took a five on the 13th and 14th ends to become 2012 club pairs champions.
Once again there was a large entry from the junior section and some notable performances, with Keane Miller, Ross Cowan and Shannon Hawthorne reaching the quarter-finals and Peter Dymond jnr making the semi-final.
Janet Sinclair and John Harris travelled to Tain last Sunday in defence of their district mixed pairs title. Unfortunately, they ran into an on-form pairing from the Waterloo Bowling Club in Inverness who took the win.
Thurso’s men started their long road to qualify for the national finals last week with Alan Morrison and Ronnie Bain snr returning home from Brora victorious after a comfortable win over a Cawdor pair.
The triples of Douglas Fraser, Brian Tewnion and Brian Cormack travelled to Tain for their tie, only for Cromarty not to show for the match.
There were mixed fortunes for the senior fours with Derek Rhodes and co and Andy McLellan and co going down and Keith Boden’s four making it through to the next round.
Janet Sinclair is on the road again this weekend as she competes for the Northern Counties Champion of Champions in Inverness.
Tomorrow sees the men take over the green with the Allan Cup handicap singles taking place. All competitors are reminded to be at the green by 9am for the draw.
