REALISING the dreams of three Thurso surfers to compete on the world stage at a competition in Central America depends on the generosity of the public.

Mark Boyd, Shoana Blackadder and Scotty Main have all qualified for the Scotland squad to compete at the International Surfing Association’s World Games in Nicaragua starting on Sunday, May 31.

Their ambitions hit a stumbling block after the Scottish Surfing Federation (SSF) failed to secure a commercial sponsor to fund the trip to Popoyo. The SSF has now launched a crowdfunding initiative to raise the £16,000 needed to take its team of four male and two female surfers to the championships.

For every person that donates to the crowdfunding scheme, the surfers will offer a number of rewards which ranges from T-shirts, surfing guides, equipment and lessons. To make a donation, visit www.crowdfunder.co.uk/scotland-surfing-team-2015.
