Caithness Autocross Club's meeting at Stemster Farm last Sunday was another roaring success, held in favourable weather and with a record 40 entries.

At the fifth time of asking, Lenny Humphries hit the chequered flag with the fastest time of the day (FTD), powering his special yellow buggy home in 1.28.31 min. Hard on his heels in second spot was Mark Foubister in his Mini on 1.35.03.

Third overall was Jake Anderson in the 1700cc unlimited class with his MG Honda in a time of 1.35.16.

Jack Ryan was back on top form in class one with a Toyota Yaris in a time of 1.47.25.

Angus Manson continued to lead the 1001-1400cc class with his MG ZR on 1.40.34.

The 1401-1700cc class was won by Craig Manson in a Peugeot 106 GTi in a time of 1.36.15.

Duncan Pottinger returned to the autocross season in the 4x4 unlimited class, coming home in his Audi TT with a time of 1.43.88.

Autocross commentator Willie Mackay said: "This fifth event at Stemster Farm, Halkirk, attracted the biggest entry of competitors for years – in fact I can't remember 40 vehicles lining up to show their high-speed driving skills.

"It was a feast of non-stop action not only for competitors and back-up mechanics but for the very good gathering of spectators."

He explained that the track was changed in direction from the previous meeting at Stemster Farm again with some testing corners to negotiate.

Willie added: "Credit goes to the organisers, marshals and timekeepers on the day – they have safety in mind right from the start, and the experienced drivers are always on hand to help and encourage a flourishing group of youngsters, including the ladies who are already making their names known in this exhilarating outdoor sport."
