Frustrating day for Reay racing ace Ashleigh
A day of frustration befell Reay motor racer Ashleigh Morris at the latest round of the SMRC Mini Cooper Championship.
A number of mishaps occurred with her finishes in the three races being 10th, ninth and eighth.
This was all the more frustrating given how well testing had gone for Ashleigh the day before.
Despite the rain, Morris had set the quickest time in the first lap and come the final one, in much drier conditions, she was the second quickest on the track.
She qualified for the race to line up 10th on the grid but got off to a poor start in race one when she dropped to 13th. However, a determined drive saw her take the flag where she had started – 10th.
The second race saw her being bumped off the track by another car. Despite getting back onto the track and completing the race, Ashleigh could only finish ninth.
That collision had its effect with Morris only able to complete the final race in eighth position.
Of the incident in the second race she said: "I was disappointed as it could have been a seventh-place finish, one I had worked hard for at that.
"Adding to my frustration, was when the car that knocked me off was drawn for pole for the reverse grid draw – That could have been me but was instead the driver who drove through me. I think my confidence took a bit of a knock after that race."
