Caithness Seconds posted their first win of the new year with a 48-7 victory over visitors Turriff on Saturday.

Four tries in each half saw Cameron Boyd's side on easy street in the Caley North 3 encounter with the north-east outfit restricted to a converted try midway through the second half.

Turriff travelled light but were brought up to strength by a handful of Caithness loanees.

Early tries from scrum-half Russell Mill and full-back Jack Floydd had the Yellows in the box seat at Millbank, with hooker Calum Hill next to cross the whitewash after he was put in the clear.

A sparky spell from Turriff just before the interval saw them work an overload only for one of their guests, Douglas Metcalfe, opt to go himself.

The number eight, who had an otherwise typically industrious game, was hauled down in front of the posts by Floydd.

The full-back was soon featuring at the other end of the pitch when Dougie Gunn fed him just inside his own half and he showed the cover defence a clean pair of heels to grab his second of the day.

After the turnaround, the home front row got in on the scoring act with tries from Michael MacGregor, Tom David and Lachlan Jardine. The pick of the three was Jardine's – the prop stepping past several opponents on a 35-metre dash to the line.

Just after MacGregor's touchdown, Turriff grabbed a breakaway try from Daniel Chisholm, converted by Daniel Booth.

Drew Mathesen marked his return to the game after a three-year absence with a useful stint from the bench which saw him grab the Yellows' last try five minutes from time.

Craig Cannop bagged his fourth conversion of the day.

The Seconds complete the first half of the league on Saturday with the twice delayed double-header in Invergordon against Stornoway.

Caithness Krakens have completed their North Region Women's League after being given a walkover versus Peterhead.

The Krakens were awarded a 28-0 win after the north-east outfit were unable to fulfil their scheduled trip to Thurso.

The Krakens, however, are entered for the National Plate competition, in which they are in a qualifying league comprising Edinburgh University, Kirkcaldy, Orkney Dragons and Strathmore.

Their first match is away to the students on February 18.
